Intermodal
In a global economy where the reliability and sustainability of the logistics chain represent assets of primary value, intermodality has established itself as an essential strategic resource for the production system. The synergy between road transport, dedicated both to bulk transport and widespread distribution, and rail transport serving high-volume routes, makes it possible to optimise operational resources, promote decarbonisation and ensure structural stability for companies' supply chains.
Interport Pordenone is positioned as a leading hub in North-Eastern Italy, constituting an ecosystem undergoing continuous technological and infrastructural development. The entire interport area and the Intermodal Terminal benefit from an advanced digital system for the management, monitoring and tracking of goods flows for export or in transit, in full compliance with the national e-FTI (electronic Freight Transport Information) and e-CMR standards. The ongoing enhancement plan, which includes the implementation of the bundle of railway tracks and the extension of the shunting track to 750 metres, ensures first-class operations.
Choosing the intermodal option at the Pordenone hub means integrating your value chain into a reliable and constantly expanding network. Rail transport confirms its role as a fundamental ally in supporting business development, ensuring a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, the optimisation of logistics costs over medium and long distances, and a tangible contribution to environmental sustainability objectives. It is an ongoing commitment, with Interport Pordenone investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate the growth and competitiveness of the local economic system.
Terminal
The Intermodal Terminal extends over a total area of 158,000 m² and is at the centre of a major infrastructure enhancement plan, aimed at bringing the facility into line with the highest European logistics standards and responding promptly and effectively to the growing needs of international markets, as detailed below:
Technical equipment
- Terminal area 158,000 m²
- Yard tracks Expanding system: 6 tracks in total (5 operational and 1 storage track)
- Shunting track Upgrade to the European 750-metre standard nearing completion
- Handling equipment Technological transition towards the use of 2 modern electric gantry cranes
- Rail-connected warehouses 40,000 m² dedicated to the short- and long-term storage of Intermodal Transport Units (ITUs)
- Noise mitigation Installation of mobile sound-absorbing barriers along the railway line to protect the surrounding environment
- Ro-La provision Platform equipped to accommodate Ro-La trains (Rolling Highway)
InRail
The current operator of the intermodal terminal, for the period from 15th January 2026 to 14th July 2027, is InRail S.p.A., a railway company of the Autobrennero Group. With a well-established presence in the area and international experience in France, Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia, InRail represents the ideal strategic partner for strengthening Pordenone's role as a leading hub in North-Eastern Italy.
With an average throughput of 150 trains per week, the operator is able to integrate the Terminal with the European TEN-T networks and develop direct connections to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe and Italy's main port facilities, including Trieste, Genoa, Livorno and Ravenna.
InRail develops tailor-made logistics solutions for export-oriented companies, combining economic competitiveness with environmental responsibility. The synergy with the Interport's new infrastructure provides a strong boost to sustainability: each train handled is equivalent to 25 fewer heavy vehicles on the road, ensuring a drastic reduction in CO₂ emissions, a lower environmental impact and greater supply chain efficiency.
